WHAT is Steinbach Community Christmas?

Steinbach Community Christmas is a non-profit organization that acts as a central registration program for Christmas Food & Toy Hampers. Its primary purpose is one of co-ordination, facilitation and distribution to families in need. This registry is used in two ways. 1) The Committee, together with volunteers, make up the hampers for families whose names have been registered by churches, schools, groups or individuals in the area. 2) They then co-ordinate the delivery of the hampers to the families that have been registered via the central registration system. SCC services families in the City of Steinbach, RM of Hanover, Blumenort, Mitchell, Zhoda, La Broquerie, Marchand, Sandilands, Woodridge, and St. Labre. Each hamper consists of food to prepare a traditional Christmas dinner and a $25 toy for each child age 0-17. The average retail value per hamper is $300. All the food is purchased in advance by the Committee in order that ALL the hampers are identical and every family gets the same food items.
